Insert your best “Tim the Tool Man Taylor” grunting here!!! Sorry, but this post is all about the engines!!!
Ah yes, my favorite place on the boat and the most critical to delivering us safely around the world in our travels! After a very lengthy and involved period of research, talking with other owners of all the major engine brands, dealers, & technicians, we chose the MAN V-8 1200 HP engines for our build.
We visited the U.S MAN distribution center in Pompano Beach, Florida where all of the MAN engines arrive from Germany, are paired with their respective marine gears (think transmission), tested, painted and then shipped to customers. This was such a thorough walk-thru and we were able to talk to their engineers and put our hands on the engines and have them walk thru the service points. They were very patient with all our questions and did a really nice job is helping us decide that this Engine and Team behind it was the best choice for our build.
In this week’s update, we see that the Engine room is really coming together with the fuel lines, fuel filtration, hydraulic lines, electrical, cooling water plumbing all installed. I wish I was there to be able to see it all come together or at least a time lapse perhaps! Thanks for allowing me to drone on about the mechanicals in this post and I’ll return next week with our regularly scheduled interior updates. BD
