We send emails to the people who sign up for our newsletter/email notifications (not on the list, you can sign up on the home page under “Subscribe to our Newsletter”.  We only send them if you sign up and you can unsubscribe anytime you want. There’s always a link at the bottom of every email to do so.

For example, as the site owner I can see that a specific post has 285 views, but I cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Stats logs containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available), are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.
